Mineral Resources of Kendrapara  District

    Kendrapara District is bounded by Lat. 20˚ 05' N to 20˚ 45' N and Long 87˚ 02' E to 87˚ 15' E and covering an area of 2554 Sq. K.M. in Orissa exposes soft quaternary sediments with an estimated thickness of 146.47 m around Kendrapara. The sediments rest over the Baripada beds of Tertiary age. The soft sediments are geologically classified as (i) older beach facies (ii) Lower delta facies, (iii) upper delta facies, (iv) Younger beach facies and (v) Coastal deposits. These soft sediments comprising variable proportion of sand, silt and clay are deposited in compound delta system of Mahanadi, Brahmani and Baitarani rivers.

    The beach and dune deposits along the coast near Satabhaya comprise small concentration of heavy mineral, essentially composed of monazite, ilmenite, rutile and zircon etc. No other mineral resources has so far been discovered by GSI in this District.
